Nurture the Body, Nurture the Mind

Nurture the Body, Nurture the Mind

Morning Dew

This,
the vessel of my existence,
the castle of my spirit,
the holder of my mind.
A molded form of stardust,
that allows me to navigate this world,
Every day, decays toward a known end.
Inevitable,
yet the quest is eternal.
The beat within,
propels the driving primal rhythm,
pounding for life as I fly to the endless horizon.
A new day dawns,
a fresh sun rises,
and the morning dew glistens like stars upon the hilltops.

Yesterday, I sat in front of a tree and I saw myself.  A clarity arose, engulfed in truth, taught by simply keeping the eyes open.  I observed the tree.  Leaves, branches, trunk, and roots.  Here it is, alive in it's home along the Charles River, given it's current form by the hand that planted it's seed.  It doesn't know who planted the seed and neither do I.  We have something in common.

Here I am in my current form.  This body and this mind have come together to create myself.  The cosmos has given a righteous gift.  My body works in systematic cohesion to keep me alive, allowing me to walk the grasses of this earth and drink in the crisp air and sit with a tree.  My breath enters my body and I possess an innate ability to process it.  My lungs extract the nutrients from the air and feed them into my bloodstream -- the fuel of the engine.  This fuel is circulated by my heart which pumps it to my brain -- the conductor of the symphony.  The sun sets, the sun rises, and my heart pumps the tribal beat.  These forces are acting beyond my control and define the entirety of my existence.  They command respect.

This wondrous system is the home of my consciousness, my spirit, or "soul",  the uniqueness that is my individual personality.  This piece of myself that I call "I" is housed in this system of genetic makeup.  My body is the vessel used to transmit this essence of who I am during my time on earth.  It is sacred.

The body needs energy to thrive in this world.  Water and food are essential.  A week without water and the system fails.  A month or so without food yields the same result.  Here we have an ability to make conscious choices.  Is there more positive energy in a bowl of spinach or a sleeve of oreos?  The answer is obvious and the body knew it before the brain read the sentence.  Treat the body with respect and it will perform at a higher level.  Work out, sweat, give it strength and agility, and the system will run more efficiently.  It's amazing what the body is capable of when pushed to it's limits.  Think of the bodybuilders, the ultra marathon runners, the acrobats.  Our bodies are pliable and are shaped entirely by our own motivations.

Nurture the Body, Nurture the Mind.
